NMa priorities for 2010-2011
The NMa’s objective is to have markets work better. To that end, we have the power to take corrective measures. That means we point out problems to companies, and impose a sanction, if necessary. We make them pay fines, for example. Or we can create conditions for making competition possible. Every two years, we draw up the NMa Agenda. In it, we include what we believe are the most important points, which thus are the NMa’s priorities.
Corrective measures
Corrective measures means: dealing with cartels, preventing abuses of dominant positions, and assessing planned concentrations in advance
In 2010 and 2011, our activities are primarily focused on the following industries:
Creating conditions
The energy and transport industries are not considered perfectly competitive industries. In other words, they are not completely free markets yet. That is why in 2010 and 2011 we will continue to create preconditions to stimulate competition. We do this in the following areas:
- Investment climate for energy networks
- Provision of information to consumers
- Integration of wholesale markets
- Development of oversight on transport markets
The NMa seeks opinions
Before the NMa Agenda is drawn up, we consult with stakeholders in society. They are given the opportunity to say what they expect from the NMa, and what they think about our plans. Read more (in Dutch).
Annual bulletins and annual reports
At the end of each calendar year, the NMa gives account of its actions. We explain what we have done, and how we have carried out the points in the NMa Agenda. The first occasion to do so is in the annual bulletin in January. A more detailed account is given in the annual report later in the year.
