Legal Department
If a company has failed to comply with, for example, competition rules, the NMa may impose a fine on it. The NMa could also order that company to behave differently on the market. That can be achieved by an order subject to periodic penalty payments.
Fines or orders subject to periodic penalty payments
If the NMa imposes a fine or an order, the company in question is given a decision. That is a legal document in which the violation is described and what fine must be paid. That is what the Legal Department takes care of.
Objections and appeals
The Legal Department also deals with objections and appeals that companies file. Companies can do that when they do not agree with NMa decisions.
Disputes
Private individuals and companies sometimes do not agree with the way operators of electricity or gas networks operate. If they have a dispute, they can come to the NMa. The Legal Department handles disputes.
Advice
The Legal Department advises the NMa on laws and regulations the NMa deals with.
