Office of Energy and Transport Regulation
The Office of Energy and Transport Regulation is charged with oversight on the energy and transport market. Many parts of these markets are not completely free markets. That is why the NMa regulates these industries under energy and transport laws.
Among other things, the NMa sets tariffs, so that consumers do not pay too much. In addition, the NMa makes sure that companies meet their obligations. In the industries that are free markets, the NMa is concerned with suppliers, and promotes the wholesale market. Furthermore, it enforces compliance with the Dutch Competition Act.
Energy
Oversight on the energy markets focuses on the national network operators (TenneT and GTS), the regional network operators (such as Liander and Stedin), energy suppliers (such as Essent, Oxxio and Nederlandse Energiemaatschappij), and energy traders.
Transport
Oversight on the transport markets focuses on the rail infrastructure managers ProRail and Keyrail, Schiphol airport, the Dutch pilotage industry, and the municipal public-transport companies of Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam.
