Chris Fonteijn

Chairman

On July 1, 2011, Chris Fonteijn became the Chairman of the Board of the Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa). In 2013, Mr. Fonteijn will also become the Chairman of the new regulatory authority which will encompass the NMa, the Dutch Independent Post and Telecommunications Authority (OPTA), and the Dutch Consumer Authority. He will also continue to hold his current position of Chairman of the Commission of OPTA until that merger.

Career

Chris_FonteijnMr. Fonteijn has been Chairman of the Commission of OPTA since September 1, 2005. Prior to this, he was a lawyer at the Rotterdam-based law firm NautaDutilh, where he was promoted to partner in 1988. Since beginning at NautaDutilh in 1980, he specialized in energy and corporate law, and held various positions. He has also worked for a number of years in the Middle East. In his final years at NautaDutilh, he directed the Energy & Utilities Group.

Mr. Fonteijn earned a master’s degree in law from Leiden University.
