Banks and Real Estate Division
The Banks and Real Estate Division monitors competition in the banking and real estate industries. We look at the entire real-estate chain: from the design and construction phases, to the question of financing, and finally to the sale of real estate. The NMa has already given close attention to this industry for several years now.

‘Banks and business service providers are vital to the economy. They act like grease that keeps the capital flows up and running. They support all of the other industries, and are at the heart of business transactions. Our welfare is closely intertwined with them, which is why healthy competition is so crucial in these industries. The Banks and Real Estate Division does so much more than simply enforcing compliance with the Dutch Competition Act. We identify and analyze competition concerns in the market. For example, we investigate mortgage rates, which are markedly high in the Netherlands. If you see things or developments that impede competition, please let us know, so we can do something about it.’
‘There are many concentrations in the financial industry. A number of providers have merged, and they control large shares of the market. Its products are often complicated, and its laws and regulations are somewhat unique. That makes competition in this industry fragile. Furthermore, collusive agreements are often hard to prove. We have laid down our vision for the future of this industry in a vision document.’
If you have encountered, directly or indirectly, any illegal agreements in this industry, we would like to hear about them. Please contact us by calling or sending an email to the NMa Information and Tip-Off Line.’
