Our relationships with others and society

Cooperation within the Netherlands

The NMa enforces compliance with the Dutch Competition Act and a number of industry-specific laws for the transport and energy industries. The Netherlands has more authorities for oversight on other industries and markets. The NMa works together with those authorities.

Cooperation within Europe

Other countries in Europe have regulatory bodies with similar duties as the NMa’s. We work together with those bodies to learn from each other, and to help each other.

The Office of Energy Regulation plays an active role in the Council for European Energy Regulators.

Since its creation in 2004, the Office of Transport Regulation has given much attention to the international dimension of its work. It is actively involved in consultations between the European Commission and European regulators, and in collaborations with regulators from Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Cases related to cartels or abuse of dominant positions that involve multiple countries are dealt with by the Competition Department and the Legal Department at an ECN level.

Cooperation worldwide

Free enterprise and competition are promoted outside of Europe as well. If rules in other countries are similar, it will benefit international trade. That is why the NMa works together with organizations around the world. This often happens in an ICN context – the International Competition Network.

Consultations

The NMa learns a lot from other regulatory bodies in the Netherlands and around the world. In addition, we believe it is important to know what is going on in the market. That is why we frequently consult with companies and organizations about certain issues.

Annual reports and NMa Agendas

Every year, we publish an annual report to account for what we have done. In addition, we publish an NMa Agenda every two years. It lists all our key priorities.
